What Is an Error Fare?
An error fare is a flight ticket priced far below market rate due to a human or system mistake — a missing digit, a currency conversion glitch, or a misfiled fuel surcharge. Airlines are not legally required to honour them, but most do to protect their reputation.
The average error fare lasts 12–40 minutes before it's corrected. That's your window.
Why Speed Matters
Price alerts from most travel sites fire hours after a deal appears because they batch-process fares on a schedule. StalkMyTrip monitors routes continuously and sends a push notification the moment a price crosses your threshold — often before deal-sharing forums even notice.
The Classic Error Fare Checklist
- Set narrow price thresholds. A €400 Paris–New York alert won't catch the €189 glitch. Set your threshold at 60–70% below the typical price for the route.
- Watch shoulder-season dates. Airlines rarely patch errors on mid-week, off-peak dates because traffic is low and the system flags fewer anomalies.
- Book immediately, verify later. Don't research hotels before you book the flight. You can cancel accommodation for free; you can't unclock the ticket once it's corrected.
- Use two browser tabs. One to complete the booking, one to screenshot the confirmation. Airlines occasionally claw back error fares — your screenshot is evidence.
- Book directly with the airline. Third-party OTAs sometimes cancel error-fare bookings pre-emptively to avoid chargebacks from the airline.
What StalkMyTrip Does Differently
Most price trackers check fares every 6–12 hours. StalkMyTrip's detection engine re-scans watched routes every few minutes and classifies fare drops using a rolling 90-day price baseline. A ticket must be at least 70% below that baseline before it's flagged as an error fare — not just cheaper than yesterday.
When the alert fires, you get a push notification with the route, the price, the booking link, and the baseline — so you know immediately whether it's worth booking.
The Routes Most Prone to Error Fares
- Transatlantic: JFK/EWR → LHR, CDG, AMS, BCN
- Intra-Europe: Low-cost carriers filing wrong base fares after route restructures
- Asia-Pacific: Multi-leg fares where a segment fee drops to zero
Set alerts. Stay ready. The fare won't wait.
